Before wallpapering a wall, apply a coat of clear varnish to any grease spots. This will prevent the grease from soaking through the new paper.

As people age, many become more uncomfortable with change than they used to be. Older people don't want things to be any different from the way they've always been -- and if they're forced to change, they stress out (at least a little).

Age probably affects your dog the same way. Like you, he takes comfort in consistency. Being able to count on eating in the same place today as he did yesterday or going to the same potty place now as he did this morning gives him feelings of comfort and safety. Routine is to your senior like a blankie is to a human toddler. Both help ensure security to the individual who may not otherwise feel all that secure about his world.

If you want to see some of Arizona's most spectacular scenery and visit an Indian reservation, this canyon, south of the central part of Grand Canyon National Park, fills the bill. Home to some 500 Havasupai people, Havasu Canyon is famous for its astonishingly turquoise water and for the 200-foot waterfalls that cascade down vivid red sandstone cliffs into limpid pools. Swimming in said pools -- and for some people, hiking into and out of the canyon -- is pretty much all you can do there; the village consists of fairly run-down homes. If you can stand being forced to relax in a beautiful spot, though, this area may just be your place. Keep in mind that Havasu Canyon is a more than a little bit off the beaten path; you must hike, ride, or book a helicopter flight to enter, and you must reserve in advance.

Been shopping? When you put those plastic bags in the trunk of the car, tie the tops of the bags to stop your groceries from flying all around the trunk when you suddenly stop .

Everyone likes fresh feet. Today's tip eliminates odor in your shoes. Sprinkle baking soda in them instead of pricey foot powder, or put kitty litter in an old knee-high and put it in your shoes it will absorb all the smells.

Mozilla contributor Henrik Gemal wrote last week in a blog that a phishing detector has been added to Thunderbird. This feature is likely to be available in the next release of Thunderbird, version 1.1, according to the Mozilla bug report.

In a phishing scam, fraudsters send e-mail messages that try to lure people to Web sites faked to look like sites belonging to trusted service providers such as banks. Once they click through, people are asked to hand over credit card numbers and other sensitive personal information, which the criminals could use to commit identity fraud.

With the new Thunderbird feature, when a user clicks on a link in an e-mail that appears to be a phishing URL, the detector will prompt the user with a dialog box before the Web site is opened, Gemal wrote. The detector is triggered if the URL has a numeric Internet Protocol address rather than a domain name, or if the URL does not match the address displayed in the link text.

MILWAUKEE, Jan 24, 2005 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Harley-Davidson expands its model offerings with an all-new 2006 VRSCR Street Rod, a big bore 15th Anniversary Edition 2005 Fat Boy and dirt track-inspired 2005 Sportster 883R.

Highlights of the 2006 VRSCR Street Rod:
The roadster-inspired VRSCR Street Rod sets a new standard and a bold direction for the VRSC family combining style and performance in equal measure. The newest member of the VRSC family is decidedly more aggressive with its upright riding position, inverted front forks,  40-degree lean angle, 1130cc Revolution V-Twin engine and tuned suspension.

Highlights of the 2005 15th Anniversary Edition FLSTFI Fat Boy:
For 15 years the Fat Boy has ruled the heavyweight cruiser class by blending classic hardtail styling with a heart-pounding counter-balanced V-Twin engine. The 15th Anniversary Edition Fat Boy commemorates the model's journey with an extra helping of chrome, performance and style.
Its signature solid disc wheels have been chromed, making a visual statement that's as powerful as it is custom. The two color options -- Vivid Black and Brilliant Silver, a nod to the original color introduced in 1990 -- are complemented by a matched paint scheme on its counter-balanced V-Twin motor. A 24K gold-plated tank emblem and unique Badlander-inspired, double-stitched seam seat, gold striped air cleaner cover, timer cover and ignition switch plate are unique custom treatments.
Driving that point home is a big bore, fuel-injected 1550cc Twin Cam
95 engine producing 87.1-ft.-lbs. of torque at 4000 rpm. It's counterbalanced and solid-mounted to deliver the Softail's tightly-framed, timeless style and strong roll-on power with just the right amount of feedback to the rider. The 15th Anniversary Fat Boy will be available until June 2005, while supplies last.

Highlights of the 2005 Sportster XL883R:
The Sportster XL883R pays tribute to the famed Harley-Davidson XR dirt track racers with eye-catching, race-inspired styling elements. Most noticeable are the blacked-out Evolution powertrain and race-ready
883R graphics on the classic, orange 3.3-gallon fuel tank.
A staggered shorty dual exhaust system and dual front disc brakes reflect the 883R's competitive DNA. Blacked-out components like fork sliders, headlamp eyebrow, handlebars, air cleaner cover and rear shock springs enhance its distinctive style and make it a fun bike to ride.

EL CAJON, Calif. -- A motorcycle gang member has been sentenced to 75 years to life in prison for murdering an associate of a rival gang and wounding another man outside an El Cajon bar.

Ray Nolan Waldron, a member of the Mongols gang, was found guilty in June of killing David "L.J." Florentine and wounding Anthony Nunn in September 2003.

Waldron, 29, was convicted of murder, attempted murder, assault with a firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

During the sentencing hearing Monday, Superior Court Judge Louis R. Hanoian rejected a motion by Waldron's lawyer, Craig Leff, for a new trial, arguing that the lawyer who represented his client during the trial did a poor job.
Among other things, Leff said Waldron's original lawyer failed to call on witnesses who could have raised questions about the credibility of a key prosecution witness.

Prosecutor Gordon Paul Davis told the judge that the evidence against Waldron was overwhelming.

Florentine and Nunn were shot during a confrontation on Sept. 27, 2003. Florentine was an associate but not a member of the Hells Angels. He was shot five times and died outside the bar. Nunn was shot once in the leg as he tried to flee and ducked for cover.

Word of the Day

hie \HYE\ verb

*1: to go quickly : hasten
2 : to cause (oneself) to go quickly
Example sentence:
"In the summer, Nick, his wife, Arabella, and their three-year-old daughter, Lily, hie off to the country — yes, to a little stone cottage in Wales." (Charles Gandee, Vogue, February 1996)
Did you know?
"Hie" has been part of English since the 12th century, and it stems from the even hoarier "hīgian," Old English for "to strive" or "to hasten." "Hie" enjoyed a high popularity period from the 16th to the 19th centuries, and you're sure to encounter it in the literature of those times — writers from Shakespeare to Twain penned it into their prose. But don't get the idea that "hie" is just a word of the past. It is regularly tapped out on the keyboards of 21st-century writers, and it pops up in print somewhere in just about any given week.
