Quarter of all Dutch 'Angels' held as weapons are found

17 October 2005 AMSTERDAM — The Dutch National Detective Service detained 45 members of the Hells Angels in a series of coordinated raids on Monday morning.

Detectives, backed up by firearms units, carried out raids on Hells Angels clubhouses and homes in several Dutch cities.

Police seized a grenade launcher with ammunition, a flame-thrower, two hand grenades, a smoke grenade, a percussion cap, a submachine gun and 19 other guns. They also discovered EUR 70,000, six bunch of cannabis plants, and several expensive watches.

About 1,000 officers were involved and 64 locations were searched in the planned operation. Television footage of one of the raids showed officers with automatic weapons standing guard as a bulldozer knocked a hole in a fence around the Hells Angels property.

Some 45 members of the motorbike club were arrested, Justice officials said. It is estimated there are a total of
200 Hells Angels in the Netherlands.

Police called on Monday for anyone with information about criminal activity by the Hells Angels to come forward.

The raids on Hells Angels properties in Amsterdam, Haarlem, IJmuiden, Harlingen, Kampen and Rotterdam were part of an investigation launched in 2003.

Police began the investigation after allegations the Angels were involved in murder, extortion, as well as trading in guns and drugs.

Justice officials have long claimed the Hells Angels is a criminal organisation while the Angels insist they are simply biking enthusiasts.

The authorities retreated somewhat for earlier pronouncements and said the investigation, in the first instance, was not focusing on the Hells Angels as a criminal organisation.

Instead, detectives were working to gather evidence that certain members of the club were using the Hells Angels name, reputation and facilities to help them commit crime.

Twelve Hells Angels bikers from Limburg were jailed for six years last March for the manslaughter of their club president, Paul de Vries.

The president of the Nomads chapter of the Hells Angels in Limburg, and two fellow members, Serge Wagener and Cor Pijnenburg, were shot dead in the chapter's clubhouse.

Their bodies were found in a stream near the southern Dutch town of Echt on 13 February last year. It was alleged the men died in a dispute over a missing consignment of cocaine.

The police raids were carried out to obtain evidence to support the contention that the Hells Angels is a criminal organisation, which could be outlawed.

'Big Willem' van Boxtel, the former president of the Hells Angels in Amsterdam, was among those arrested, his lawyer said on Monday.

Van Boxtel denied allegations by a witness in Limburg murder trial that he had sanctioned the murder of De Vries and the other two men.

'Big Willem' was expelled from the Hells Angels last year because he had allegedly been offered EUR 1 million by property tycoon Willem Endstra to murder convicted Heineken kidnapper Willem Holleeder.

It was suggested that 'Big Willem' was to kill 'Angel friend' Holleeder by bombing the Angel's clubhouse in Amsterdam. No attack was carried out on Holleeder but Endstra was shot dead in Amsterdam in May 2004.

The Perfect time Is...Now

If you're looking for a bargain, now is the perfect time.
This is the slow season at appliance and furniture stores.
This means low prices and lots of sales. Other sales in used cars and home-improvements stores.

Iron your clothes when they're still damp. It saves on drying time and you don't have to use steam.

Don't you hate having a foggy windshield? Go to your discount store and buy a chalkboard eraser. Keep the eraser in the glove box of your car. When the windows fog, rub with the eraser!
Works better than a cloth!

What Happened After RAW Ended Last Night Story By: Ryan Clark As announced on RAW last night, Mick Foley will return to RAW next week to take part in Carlito's Cabana.

After RAW ended last night, Jim Ross grabbed the mic and was asked what he thought of being fired. Ross thanked the fans for being there for all the years and said even though he was from Oklahoma and they were from Texas, thet were still Human Beings. This was just a rant thanking everyone.

He said the McMahon's could kiss his ass and walked up the ramp. He was then greeted by Jerry Lawler and the two went to the back.

 GREEN TOMATO FESTIVAL

October 22-23, 2005 Juliette,  GA Before the filming of "Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café", Juliette had become little more than a ghost town. Founded in the 1880s, it was a booming community with numerous industries. However, as time marched on, mills and shops began to close and the downtown buildings sat empty.

All that changed in 1991 and now Juliette sees thousands of visitors a year from around the world. On any given weekend you'll find locals as well as oversees visitors ready to sample Juliette's great food, shopping and hospitality. It only seems appropriate to celebrate the food and movie that's brought new life to their community.

Energy Conscious Tips

Buy a new fridge that is the right size for your needs to avoid wasting energy cooling nothing.

Use a microwave or toaster oven to cook small portions and a conventional oven or stove-top for larger items.

A watched pot will eventually boil-but putting a lid on it reduces cooking time and energy use. Also, match the pot size to burner size to avoid energy waste.

From the Gov Bush newsletter

On Monday, Agriculture Commissioner Charles Bronson, Senator Ken Pruitt and Representative Joe Negron joined me on the shores of Lake Okeechobee to unveil a comprehensive plan to accelerate restoration and recovery of the largest freshwater lake in the southeast. Under the $200 million recovery plan, Florida is expanding water storage areas, constructing treatment marshes and expediting environmental management initiatives to enhance the ecological health of the lake and downstream coastal estuaries. Lake Okeechobee is the gateway to America's Everglades. Restoring this dynamic system is critical to the long-term economic and environmental health of South Florida. This comprehensive, common-sense plan will reduce pollution and better manage the flow of water while meeting our flood control and water supply responsibilities

MILWAUKEE, Oct 12, 2005 (AP Online via COMTEX) -- Harley-Davidson Inc. said Wednesday its third-quarter profit rose nearly 16 percent, citing robust motorcycle shipments worldwide.

The results beat analysts' average forecast, and Harley-Davidson shares jumped $3.20, or 7 percent, to $48.80 in premarket activity.

Earnings rose to $265 million, or 96 cents per share, from $229 million, or 77 cents per share.

Revenue increased 10 percent to $1.43 billion from $1.3 billion a year ago, driven by double-digit sales growth in the United States, Europe and Japan.
Global wholesale motorcycle shipments rose 8.7 percent to 87,585 units.

Wall Street's mean earnings estimate was 90 cents per share, the average view of
15 analysts polled by Thomson Financial, on estimated revenue of $1.43 billion.

Looking ahead, Harley-Davidson forecast shipments between 348,000 to 352,000 motorcycles for next year, a target it called "conservative" due to rising fuel prices and interest rates. It also backed its motorcycle shipment target of
329,000 units this year, in line with its July forecast.

Harley-Davidson also said it was widening its long-term forecast for wholesale unit growth to a range of 5 percent to 9 percent annually, and annual earnings per share growth ranging from 11 percent to 17 percent.

In July, the company had projected long-term motorcycle unit shipment growth between 7 percent to 9 percent per year, and earnings per share growth in the mid-teens range.

Harley-Davidson's stock price is off 24 percent so far this year, on a dividend-adjusted basis.

Life is short...drink more beer today!

A biker was riding along a California beach when suddenly the sky clouded above his head and, in a booming voice, the Lord said, "Because you have TRIED to be faithful to me in all ways, I will grant you one wish."

The biker pulled over and said, "Build a bridge to Hawaii so I can ride over anytime I want."

The Lord said, "Your request is materialistic.
Think of the enormous challenges for that kind of undertaking. The supports required to reach the bottom of the Pacific! The concrete and steel it would take! It will nearly exhaust several natural resources. I can do it, but it is hard for me to justify your desire for worldly things. Take a little more time and think of something that would honor and glorify me."

The biker thought about it for a long time. Finally he said, "Lord, I wish that I could understand my wife. I want to know how she feels inside, what she's thinking when she gives me the silent treatment, why she cries, what she means when she says nothing's wrong, and how I can make a woman truly happy."

The Lord replied, "You want two lanes or four on that bridge?"

Judge threatens to dismiss Hell Angels' indictments

Dennis Wagner The Arizona Republic Oct. 17, 2005 05:29 PM A U.S. District judge is expected to take federal prosecutors to task this week for making false and legally incorrect statements in a racketeering and murder case against the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club.

Judge David Campbell called for Friday's hearing in a sharply worded order suggesting that indictments against members of the biker organization might be dismissed if the U.S. Attorney's Office fails to abide by due-process rules.

Campbell described his order as "an extraordinary step of requiring the chief of the criminal division of the United States Attorney's Office . . . to appear in court and personally certify that the government has complied with its disclosure obligations . . .

"Statements made to the court by counsel for the government have been inaccurate, inconsistent and sometimes legally incorrect," the judge wrote. "The court has concluded . . . that a higher level of attention is necessary if this case is to be brought to trial."

Prosecutors apparently responded in a memorandum, but it was filed under seal. A spokeswoman in U.S. Attorney Paul Charlton's office declined to comment.

In July 2003 federal agents and Valley police raided Hells Angels' homes, businesses and chapter houses, arresting 16 club members and associates under a federal grand jury indictment for murder, gunrunning, drug-dealing, racketeering and other crimes.

The undercover probe known as Operation Black Biscuit netted three Hells Angel chapter presidents in the state.
Agents seized 600 firearms, plus stolen vehicles, drugs, club records and paraphernalia.

As part of the sting, undercover investigators from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives infiltrated the club and were invited to become members.

Similar cases are being tried against dozens of Hells Angels in Nevada, California and other states.

Defense attorneys have complained about misconduct by undercover operatives in the Arizona case, and about the prosecution's failure to disclose evidence that must be shared under federal justice rules.

Joe Abodeely, counsel for defendant Craig T. Kelly, filed a motion for dismissal this week based on prosecutors' conduct during 20 months and 10 hearings.

"It is painfully clear that the government has not and does not intend to comply with its legal requirements in keeping with due process, fair play and with this court's orders," Abodeely wrote.

WORD of the DAY

piebald \ PYE-bawld \ adjective

*1 : composed of incongruous parts
2 : of different colors; especially : spotted or blotched with black and white

Example sentence:
Lee's self-proclaimed "experimental novel" was a piebald accumulation of random stories woven together with the thinnest of narrative threads.

Did you know?
To many people, the species Pica pica is nothing but a pest — and a pest those noisy black-and-white birds, better known as magpies, may be. But the Latin root "pica" that was adopted for their name isn't a linguistic nuisance; it played an important role in the development of "piebald." The "pie" of "piebald" ("pie" is another name for a magpie) derives from "pica," Latin for "magpie," and "bald" has the meaning "marked with white." Knowing those two facts surely makes the origin of "piebald" black-and-white (so to speak).

*Indicates the sense illustrated in the example sentence.
