Specifically, this proposal states that, "The state, a political subdivision, or any other person may not prohibit or restrict the lawful possession, transfer, sale, transportation, storage, display or use of firearms or ammunition during a disaster emergency, an energy emergency, or a local disaster emergency." A special thank you goes to Representative Koch for stepping forward to offer this important bill, and for his continued efforts to protect the Second Amendment. Keith Ellison, D-Minn., the first Muslim elected to the United States Congress, has announced that he will not take his oath of office on the Bible, but on the bible of Islam, the Koran.

He should not be allowed to do so -- not because of any American hostility to the Koran, but because the act undermines American civilization.
First, it is an act of hubris that perfectly exemplifies multiculturalist activism -- my culture trumps America's culture. What Ellison and his Muslim and leftist supporters are saying is that it is of no consequence what America holds as its holiest book; all that matters is what any individual holds to be his holiest book.

Forgive me, but America should not give a hoot what Keith Ellison's favorite book is. Insofar as a member of Congress taking an oath to serve America and uphold its values is concerned, America is interested in only one book, the Bible. If you are incapable of taking an oath on that book, don't serve in Congress. In your personal life, we will fight for your right to prefer any other book. We will even fight for your right to publish cartoons mocking our Bible. But, Mr. Ellison, America, not you, decides on what book its public servants take their oath.

Devotees of multiculturalism and political correctness who do not see how damaging to t he fabric of American civilization it is to allow Ellison to choose his own book need only imagine a racist elected to Congress. Would they allow him to choose Hitler's "Mein Kampf," the Nazis' bible, for his oath? And if not, why not? On what grounds will those defending Ellison's right to choose his favorite book deny that same right to a racist who is elected to public office?

Of course, Ellison's defenders argue that Ellison is merely being honest; since he believes in the Koran and not in the Bible, he should be allowed, even encouraged, to put his hand on the book he believes in. But for all of American history, Jews elected to public office have taken their oath on the Bible, even though they do not believe in the New Testament, and the many secular elected officials have not believed in the Old Testament either. Yet those secular officials did not demand to take their oaths of office on, say, the collected works of Voltaire or on a volume of New York Times editorial s, writings far more significant to some liberal members of Congress than the Bible. Nor has one Mormon official demanded to put his hand on the Book of Mormon. And it is hard to imagine a scientologist being allowed to take his oath of office on a copy of "Dianetics" by L. Ron Hubbard.

So why are we allowing Keith Ellison to do what no other member of Congress has ever done -- choose his own most revered book for his oath?

The answer is obvious -- Ellison is a Muslim. And whoever decides these matters, not to mention virtually every editorial page in America, is not going to offend a Muslim. In fact, many of these people argue it will be a good thing because Muslims around the world will see what an open society America is and how much Americans honor Muslims and the Koran.

This argument appeals to all those who believe that one of the greatest goals of America is to be loved by the world, and especially by Muslims because then fewer Muslims will hate us (and therefore fewer will bomb us).

But these naive people do not appreciate that America will not change the attitude of a single American-hating Muslim by allowing Ellison to substitute the Koran for the Bible. In fact, the opposite is more likely: Ellison's doing so will embolden Islamic extremists and make new ones, as Islamists, rightly or wrongly, see the first sign of the realization of their greatest goal -- the Islamicization of America.

When all elected officials take their oaths of office with their hands on the very same book, they all affirm that some unifying value system underlies American civilization. If Keith Ellison is allowed to change that, he will be doing more damage to the unity of America and to the value system that has formed this country than the terrorists of 9-11. It is hard to believe that this is the legacy most Muslim Americans want to bequeath to America. But if it is, it is not only Europe that is in trouble. (End Commentary)

4. Don't run electrical cords under rugs or carpeting.
Upper Darby police are struggling to keep up with the holiday demand for a $10 black T-shirt they are selling.

Why are cops peddling T-shirts? Must have something to do with the message in bold white letters across the front: "Not In My Town 'Scumbag.' "

In other words, drug dealers and other criminals, keep your slimy hands out of our community, says Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood Sr.

"We are sending a message," Chitwood said. "We don't want scumbags in our community selling drugs, robbing, raping and pillaging," Chitwood said.

Officers came up with the "scumbag" slogan six months ago when Chitwood asked his department to think up a fresh mantra for the squad cars.

While Chitwood decided on the conservative "Protecting Our Community" for patrol cars, his officers decided to go with the "scumbag" motif for T-shirts.

Since the shirts hit the market two months ago, the department has sold about 350 shirts and has ordered 200 more for their Christmas-time clients.

"It has become the hottest-selling item in town," Chitwood said with a grin.

VAUGHAN, Ont. (CP) - York Regional Police have arrested a man in connection with a shooting that left a Hells Angel member dead and wounded two others.

Francesco Lenti, 59, of Vaughan, Ont. is charged with second degree murder, attempted murder and numerous weapons offences.

Lenti is scheduled to appear in Provincial Court in Newmarket on Sunday.

A Hells Angels biker gang member died Saturday in an early morning shooting at a strip club in Vaughan, Ont., that wounded two others.

Police said David Buchanan, 32, of Toronto was a full-patch member of the gang and was pronounced dead at the scene, north of Toronto.

A 28-year-old prospect member from Maple, Ont., was also found with gunshot wounds at the Pro Cafe.

He was taken to hospital and was in serious but stable condition.

Police later discovered a third gunshot victim, a 33-year-old full-patch Hells Angels member from Toronto who had gone to hospital where he was treated and released.

Hundreds of Hells Angels and their associates arrived in Woodbridge on motorcycles and buses Friday to pay their respects to a comrade gunned down by a rival gang member.

David Buchanan, the sergeant-at-arms for the Hells Angels' west Toronto chapter, was shot dead Saturday at a Vaughan strip club while celebrating his 32nd birthday.

Francesco Lenti, an alleged member of the Bandidos biker gang, has been charged with second-degree murder, attempted murder and weapons offences.

The bikers, wearing their trademark leather jackets, traveled on chartered buses and motorcycles from British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Ontario.

At least six police cruisers surrounded the Weston Road funeral home where the bikers shook hands, hugged and laughed.

Police photographers with long telephoto lenses snapped pictures of the bikers.

Buchanan, a father of three, is the first Ontario Hells Angel to be killed since the club expanded into the province six years ago. The club absorbed members of numerous clubs, including the Lobos and Satan's Choice.

Buchanan was gunned down at 1:30 a.m. Saturday at Club Pro Adult Entertainment near Highway 7 and Jane Street.

Autopsy results determined Buchanan died from gunshot wounds to the head and torso.

The shooting also left a prospect Angels member with serious injuries and another full-patch member with minor wounds.

An Angels website, called Real Deal News, identified the two injured men as Carlos Virrilli, 26 and Dana Carnegie,
33.

Postings on the website called Buchanan a loving father and a good person.

"Sure, Dave was a Hells Angel -- so what?'' one mourner wrote. "That's not all he was. I know Dave as a proud and devoted father, a brother, a son, a friend, a boyfriend, an uncle and most importantly, a Buchanan.' "In my life, I have never met a closer or tighter family that would do anything and everything to help one another or their friends. I am proud to say that they are my friends and will always be like a second family.'' Police say there are about 190 Hells Angels and two dozen Bandidos in Ontario.
