Eating Right for a Healthy Immune System
An immune-friendly diet consists of a variety of healthy foods -- fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, and foods with proteins. Regular use of SNACCs (sugar, nicotine, alcohol, caffeine, and chemicals) often defeats the efforts of your immune system to protect you. It's ironic -- often the foods that you crave the most are the foods that your immune system can't tolerate.
Common food allergens that irritate your immune system are distracting -- keeping it off track. The most common food allergens are cow's milk, eggs, wheat, soy, sugar, tomatoes, corn, and yeast. Some common food reactions include headache, nasal congestion, an upset digestive system, fatigue, fast pulse, frequent or dramatic mood changes, water retention, and difficulty losing weight. You may want to check your sensitivity to these foods by eliminating one at a time from your diet for about two weeks. See how your feel. Try rotating potential allergenic foods in and out of your diet so that your immune system doesn't have time to become fully reactive to them.

FOR those who want to be really buff, a Dutch gym is introducing training sessions for nudists.
The Sunday morning sessions in the town of Heteren were added by popular demand and "anyone who shows up just to ogle will be thrown out," said gym manager Patrick de Man.
"This is a special session for naturists and we will be very strict in enforcing this," he said.
The "nudifit" sessions, which will begin on March 4, have attracted a strong response - both negative and positive, Mr de Man said.
Staff, who will remain clothed during the sessions, will pay special attention to hygiene, ensuring clients cover machinery and bikes with towels or disposable covers, he added.

When your wooden floors start to show age with scratches and scrapes, rub the mark gently with fine steel wool dipped in a wood floor cleaner. Next, dry the spot and polish it with a clean cloth. If your floor has a wax finish, reapply the wax to that area.
If your appliance is not working, don't forget to check your warranty first. Try calling the manu- facturer if they have a toll free number. Have the model number ready and explain the problem. Some- times they will be able to tell you how to fix it over the phone, saving you the cost of a repair man coming to your home or it still may be under warranty which will pay for the visit.

Harley to meet with union on Wednesday
By David Dagan - 2/12/2007 Harley-Davidson Inc. officials and representatives of striking union workers will meet on Wednesday, said Tom Boger, business representative for the workers.
No mediators will be present, he said. The two sides met twice last week with federal mediators, to no avail.
The roughly 2,750 striking members of International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local Lodge 175 are in their first day without company-paid health or life insurance benefits. Picketing at Harley’s Springettsbury Township plant will continue through tomorrow’s expected snowfall, Boger said.
A Canadian company, Kuntz Electroplating Inc. of Kitchener, Ontario, on Friday laid off 120 of 600 workers as a result of the Harley strike, vice president of human resources David Germann said. |
SAN FRANCISCO, -- A new vaccine for human papillomavirus could prevent thousands of cases of cervical cancer, and U.S. scientists say it might also work against anal cancer. The HPV vaccine was approved last year by the Food and Drug Administration for cervical cancer. Dr.
Joel Palefsky of the University of California, San Francisco, told The New York Times it could also be ap- plied on similar HPV strains in anal cancer. "The cervix is similar biologically to the anus, so there's plenty of hope that it will work there also," he said. The spread of anal cancer in men was once equal to the rate of cervical cancer in women. While scientists warned that the new vaccine has yet to be proven effective in men, test results have given them hope, the newspaper said. Previous tests found that the new HPV vaccine in- creased immune responses in boys, while other tests on preventing infection have been inconclusive. Certain men have begun using the vaccine without FDA approval, the Times reported, while other clinical tests have begun on its possible future uses. |
Nude Olympics in Australia
05 February 2007 Around 1,000 people from around the world are to gather in Australia for the annual Nude Olympics.
Organisers are expecting a bumper turnout at this year's event, although there is a warning to wear plenty of sunscreen as temperatures soar.
The Olympics are taking place on Maslin Beach and, due to a shortage of shade, participants and spectators are being advised to bring some shelter.
As well as traditional Olympic events, the nude games will see a flag race and a sack race, with a number of other events thrown in.
'The main popular one for adults is of course Miss Maslin Junior and Miss Maslin Senior and for the males we've got the best bum competition,' one of the organisers told ABC News.
Maslin Beach sits just south of Adelaide and has featured in a movie which used its name as its title. It is also Australia's first official nudist beach.

RICHARD DYMOND Herald Staff Writer President George Bush is proposing to spend $27.8 million to design and build a final resting place for veterans in east Sarasota County.
The news was applauded Monday by local veterans, who say Southwest Florida has long needed another national cemetery.
The closest national veterans cemetery still accepting interments is in Bushnell, several hours north of Bradenton.
Last May, Sen. Mel Martinez, R-Fla., announced that a new site had been selected for the state's next national cemetery at the Hawkins Ranch property east of Interstate-75 in Sarasota County. The selection followed several years of search and study.
Catharine Courtney, whose husband, "Gerry," died last year, greeted the news Monday with relief for families who will need to make only a short drive to visit the grave sites of loved ones in the future.
"Even though Gerry wanted to go to Bushnell, if we had a national cemetery here, that's where he would be,"
Courtney said of her husband, who spent 20 years in the U.S. Army combat engineers, retiring as a master sergeant. "He's not so far away that it's impossible. It just would be nicer if he were closer."
The Department of Veterans Affairs anticipates that the first burials in the new cemetery will occur in the fall of
2008, said Sally Tibbitts, a spokeswoman for U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Sarasota.
Funds to purchase the Hawkins property, located four miles east of Interstate 75 off Clark Road, were appropriated in 2006, Tibbitts said.
Len Sirotzki, a Korean war-era vet and member of Kirby Stewart American Legion Post 24 in Bradenton, welcomed the news.
"There is no question that all the veterans in Southwest Florida feel good about it," Sirotzki said. "Think of the convenience for the families. There are veterans who are buried in cemeteries in France and elsewhere. If someone says, 'Let's go see Dad,' it's 'I don't think so.' So, this is tremendous convenience."
The closest national cemetery to the Manatee-Sarasota area is Bay Pines in Pinellas County, which is only accepting burials of spouses, said Stephen Schlueter, an East Manatee resident and Vietnam vet.
"This is absolutely great news because Bay Pines no longer accepts interments," Schlueter said. "They only take cremations because of space. So, there's no place for veterans to go. It really was necessary."
Former U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris, R-Longboat Key, was instrumental in getting the cemetery on a fast track, Schlueter said.
"They were looking at 2016 and now it looks like 2008," Schlueter said.
Sirotzki also praised Harris.
"Katherine was the gunner behind it," Sirotzki said. "She got it going and had a number of persons working on it. It may have been the finest thing she did in office."
The seven-member advisory panel chosen by Harris scouted about 24 sites in Manatee, Sarasota, Hardee and Lee counties.
Eventually, the short list came down to Hawkins, Hi Hat and Myakka ranches, all located east of I-75 in Sarasota County.
After an environmental assessment, Hawkins Ranch emerged as the Department of Veteran Affairs preferred site.

Kenya Travel Warning
February 06, 2007 This Travel Warning is being issued to remind American citizens to consider carefully the risks of travel to Kenya at this time due to ongoing safety and security concerns. This supersedes the Travel Warning of August 10, 2006.
The Department continues to recommend that private American citizens in Kenya evaluate their personal security situation in light of continuing terrorist threats and increasing incidents of violent crime. Terrorist acts may include suicide operations, bombings, attacks on civil aviation, and attacks on maritime vessels in or near Kenyan ports.
Violent criminal attacks, including armed carjacking and home invasions/burglary, can occur at any time and in any location, and are becoming increasingly frequent, brazen, vicious, and often fatal. In January 2007, two family members of a U.S. Embassy employee were killed by armed carjackers. Kenyan authorities have limited capacity to deter and investigate such acts.

Burning candles is easy, cleaning them up sometimes not so much. To remove messy candleholder wax put the candle holder in the freezer for a few hours. Then peel off the wax. Now that it's clean, apply a thin coat of nonstick spray. Then next time it will just wipe off.
When dusting lightly spray your duster with your favorite air freshener. this will remove dust and freshen your home at the same time.
