Janklow given deposition delay Associated Press SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Former U.S. Rep. Bill Janklow has been given more time to testify again about the day of an accident last summer that killed a Minnesota motorcyclist.

A federal judge on Friday extended Janklow's deposition deadline from May 21 to June 15.

The new deadline is the time by which the Janklow and former aid Chris Braendlin must recount their activities Aug. 16 before a car Janklow was driving collided with a motorcycle ridden by Randy Scott of Hardwick, Minn., near Trent.

Scott's family has filed a civil suit against Janklow. Last month a lawyer for the family was granted permission to take the depositions of Janklow and Braendlin.

Janklow finishes serving his 100-day sentence for second degree manslaughter on May 17.
FLFLHTC: GIVES HIM MORE TIME TO GET HIS LIES TOGETHER.

Homicide detectives need a gangster to become a police informant if they're ever going to solve the one-year-old Kevin Tokarchuk murder investigation, says a friend of the victim's family. "Until they (police) get someone to roll over, I don't think we've got much of anything," Jack McLaughlin told The Sun yesterday. "And the loyalty among gangs is much better than what we have among people."

One year ago today, Tokarchuk, 24, was gunned down in the garage of his family's home at 363 Churchill Dr., in Fort Rouge.

The May 12 slaying coincided with the one-year anniversary of the 2002 shooting death of 25-year-old Hells Angels associate Trevor (Boss) Savoie -- for which Tokarchuk's older brother, Daniel, is awaiting trial.

It is widely believed Tokarchuk's death was an eye-for-an-eye revenge killing carried out by someone associated with the outlaw motorcycle gang and its underlings.

"But they've got no proof. I've been able to find nothing," McLaughlin said.

"There's some rumours around that maybe the guy that did it is already dead, but there's nothing to substantiate it."

Witnesses told police they saw a man riding a motorcycle in the area about the time of the shooting.

Shortly after the slaying, a group with ties to the Hells Angels was allegedly seen at Savoie's grave site, toasting it with champagne.

No arrests have been made in the case, which remains under investigation, said Winnipeg police spokeswoman Const. Shelly Glover.

Tokarchuk's mother, Diane Tokarchuk, declined to say yesterday whether she was hopeful about an eventual arrest in the mysterious case.

"We're just waiting to see what happens," she said, adding it's been a tough week with the first anniversary of the slaying. "It's everything all over again."

Eight cops were placed on paid administrative leave last May and June, but they have since been reinstated or have retired.

An Alberta Crown prosecutor cleared all officers of any criminal wrongdoing.

Now an external review is being conducted to determine if any disciplinary action is warranted.

TAMPA - Two little girls play outside a brick building as a pair of women approach them.

``Oh, aren't they pretty?'' one woman says.
The other smiles and agrees. ``Hi, girls,'' she says. ``We work with a modeling agency. If you let us take your picture, I'll give you $25.''
The girls look at each other. ``I'll do it if you will,'' one says to her friend.
``OK,'' the other girl says.
``We'll just go over here to the van,'' the woman says.

That scenario, depicted on a bilingual DVD, shows one of the ways children can be duped into leaving a safe haven. Marilyn Durst, president of the Tampa Neighborhood Watch Association, hopes to share the video with local law enforcement, community groups and schools.

Durst ordered 30 DVDs from the Good Knight Child Empowerment Network of Beltsville, Md., a nonprofit child safety organization. She plans to loan the DVDs out for presentations.

Safety Fundamentals

The Good Knights were founded in 1985 by retired law enforcement and military officers. Its headquarters is in a castle that is a children's museum.

Anyone who learns the group's ``ABC's of Safety'' becomes a Good Knight, sworn to protect children from violence and share safety tips.

A group of Good Knights visited the Gulf View Square mall in New Port Richey last week to honor 15-year-old Ashley Schuering and her father. In March, a Georgia man grabbed Ashley off her bicycle and began dragging her toward his car, deputies said.

Schuering shoved and screamed until she broke free, then ran for help. ``She fought like a wildcat,'' Durst said.

The Pasco County Sheriff's Office charged the man, Harold Hubert Carroll, 54, with attempted kidnapping.

For a presentation of the DVD, call Durst at (813) 404-9781. For information on the Good Knights, visit www.goodknight. org.
