Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming:
WOW - What a Ride!"

"We Lakota have a close relationship to the buffalo. He is our brother. You can't understand about nature, about the feeling we have toward it, unless you understand how close we were to the buffalo. That animal was almost like a part of ourselves, part of our souls." Lame Deer, Lakota

WINNIPEG -- The wife of Manitoba Hells Angels president Ernie Dew has been sentenced to five years in prison after she pleaded guilty yesterday to selling a kilogram of cocaine from her home in front of her children.

Vera Dew, 37, broke down in the prisoner's box as Crown prosecutor Chris Mainella described how she was dragged down by the pull of the drug underworld.

"She is proud to be a Hells Angels wife," Mainella said. "She knows her children are going to suffer. These are simply selfish choices by the parents."

Dew is the third person convicted out of 13 suspects arrested following a police drug sweep last February dubbed Project Defence

At one time in my life, I thought I had a handle on the meaning of the word "service." "The act of doing things for other people."

Then I heard these terms:

Internal Revenue Service
Postal Service
Telephone Service
Civil Service
City/County Public Service
Customer Service
Service Stations

And I became confused about the word "service. " This is not what I thought "service" meant.

Then today, I overheard two farmers talking, and one said he had hired a bull to "service" a few of his cows.

BAM!  It all came into perspective. Now I understand what all those "service" agencies are doing to us.

May 17, 2006 (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News via COMTEX) -- The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee announced $5 million in private donations Tuesday from Harley-Davidson Inc., Marshall & Ilsley Corp., Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co., Wisconsin Energy Corp. and the dean of the university's Helen Bader School of Social Welfare.

The donations, $1 million each, were made as part of a $100 million fund-raising campaign that is being co-chaired by the chief executives of the four companies.

Speaking at an event at UWM, the co-chairs, all alumni, said they felt invested in Chancellor Carlos Santiago's mission to increase the university's research and boost the area's economy.

"The success of the university means a lot to me personally," said Gale Klappa, the top executive at Wisconsin Energy.

The gifts from Harley-Davidson and Wisconsin Energy will go toward a general research fund; the donation from Marshall & Ilsley will be used to establish the M & I Marshall & Ilsley Center for Business Ethics; and the donation from Northwestern Mutual will help support the university's actuarial science program.

The donation from Stan Stojkovic, dean of the Helen Bader School, will be used for the school's criminal justice program and other things that Stojkovic identifies. Never before has a dean made such a large gift to the university, said UWM spokesman Tom Luljak.

Stojkovic said he knew "how important it is for a dean to have gifts that allow for flexibility to commit to the public's current needs and interests."

"This endowment," he said, "will provide for whatever needs the dean might encounter at that time."

The donations bring to $64 million the total money raised so far by the campaign.

In February, Sheldon Lubar, the honorary co-chair of the campaign, made a $10 million donation to UWM's business school, the largest gift in the university's history. As part of the donation, UWM renamed the business school the Sheldon B.
Lubar School of Business.

Dennis Kuester, chairman and chief executive of Marshall & Ilsley, said at Tuesday's news conference that his company's gift would help the School of Business enhance its current ethics curriculum by providing additional faculty, classes and seminars.

"The study and understanding of business ethics is critical to the success of our market-driven economy," Kuester said.

Edward Zore, president and chief executive of Northwestern Mutual, said he wanted to provide "meaningful support to this great community resource."

James Ziemer, president and CEO Harley-Davidson, said, "We're excited about the vision to transform UW-Milwaukee into an entrepreneurial university and the impact that will have on Milwaukee."

Try putting salt on your fireplace logs and you'll reduce the amount of ashes produced.  Save old shower curtains for painting or remodeling. Cut in squares to protect carpeting in bad weather. Throw an old curtain over the spare tire to keep luggage from being scuffed in the trunk of your car.
TALLAHASSEE – Governor Jeb Bush and the Florida Cabinet voted on Tuesday to acquire more than 2,615 acres in the Upper St. Marks River Corridor Florida Forever project. The land, located in Leon and Jefferson Counties, is the first acquisition in this project.

“Today’s vote will preserve more than 2,600 acres around the St. Marks River, which will protect water quality in the River and nearby waterways,” said Secretary Castille. “The land also provides habitat for gopher tortoises, migrant bird species and the threatened Florida black bear.” Spanning 14 miles along the upper reaches of the St. Marks River, the Upper St. Marks River Corridor project is a
15,670-acre tract owned entirely by the St. Joe Timberland Company. Today’s vote will complete Phase I of the project, with Phase II encompassing the remaining 13,054 acres.

The unique topography and geology of the area make the Upper St. Marks River Corridor project important to the water quality of the St. Marks River and its contribution to Apalachee Bay and the estuary at St. Marks Wildlife Refuge. In addition, the St. Marks River contributes to the Floridan Aquifer and the potable water supply of Tallahassee.

This project protects the beginning of a wildlife corridor along the St. Marks River and links to the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge and other state conservation lands along Florida’s Gulf Coast. The project will preserve twelve significant archaeological and historical sites throughout the area and increase natural resource-based recreational and education opportunities, providing for water and land-based trails as well as primitive camping.
Lightly spray the ashes in your fireplace with water before cleaning. This will reduce the amount of dust created when you scoop out the ashes.

Mix in a spray bottle, 1 part ammonia to 3 parts water. Or try diluted bleach solution in a spray bottle. It will remove stains AND disinfect at the same time.

We've all heard of solar heating, but if you have a backyard and haven't considered drying your clothes on a line outside, think about it now. Line drying ia a terrific way to conserve energy, and it really does leave your clothes smelling fresh and static free.

For best and long lasting results with your fresh cut flowers, be sure to cut them early in the morning.
They will be moist and not heat stressed during this time of the day. Also be sure to use very sharp pruning shears when cutting. Place the flowers in water right away.

Brazil Consular Information Sheet May 17, 2006 COUNTRY DESCRIPTION: Brazil, a nation the size of the lower 48 United States, has an advanced developing economy. Facilities for tourism are excellent in the major cities, but vary in quality in remote areas. The Capital is Brasilia. Read the Department of State Background Notes on Brazil <http://www.state.gov/r/pa/ei/bgn/35640.htm> for additional information.

ENTRY/EXIT REQUIREMENTS: The Department of State strongly encourages travelers to obtain passports well in advance of any planned travel. Routine passport applications by mail take up to six weeks to be issued. For further information, please see the New Requirements for Travelers <http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbpmc_2223.html> on the State Department's Consular website.

A passport and visa are required for U.S. citizens traveling to Brazil for any purpose. Brazilian visas must be obtained in advance from the Brazilian Embassy or consulate nearest to the traveler's place of residence. There are no "airport visas" and immigration authorities will refuse entry to Brazil to anyone not possessing a valid visa. All Brazilian visas, regardless of the length of validity, must initially be used within 90 days of the issuance date or will no longer be valid. Immigration authorities will not allow entry into Brazil without a valid visa. The U.S.
Government cannot assist travelers who arrive in Brazil without proper documentation.

In response to the introduction of the US-VISIT program, on January 1, 2004 the Government of Brazil began fingerprinting/photographing all U.S. citizens arriving in Brazil. In the first six weeks of 2004, two U.S. citizens were fined (an average $15,000 each) for making obscene gestures while being photographed at a Brazilian port of entry. Travelers are reminded that they are subject to local law, and that showing contempt to a government official is a serious offense in Brazil. (Fines for such offenses are based on the offender's claimed income).

TOKYO, -- Seven-Eleven stores in Japan will soon be offer ing cans of pressurized oxygen in mint and grapefruit flavors to give a boost to weary customers. Seven-Eleven Japan officials said the idea is to allow buyers to replenish their oxygen levels any time they feel a lack of fresh air due to stress, fatigue, or other factors, the Mainichi Shimbun reported Tuesday. Each can contains enough oxygen for 35 two-second inhalations, meaning each $5.50 can lasts for about a week if it is used five or six times a day. Normal air contains only about 21 percent oxygen, but the oxygen concentration in the cans is 95 percent, and inhaling it can reportedly bring on a feeling of invigoration, the report said. The cans go on sale in Tokyo stores on May 24, and will expand to all 11,000 outlets by June 14.
