Well, by boat or by airplane of course (unless you are a very good and fast swimmer). There are no roads leading in or out of Seldovia. The city is accessible only by air or water.
Seldovia doesn't even have a traffic light (hurrah!!!!) and there are very few paved streets. Sounds like Heaven. As the locals say, beautiful sounds in a beautiful place.

State police have released the names of the two men who were wounded Saturday after shooting broke out between members of two motorcycle clubs at the Last Stop bar on East Side at about 4:20 p.m. Saturday.

Richard Benson, 53, of Connellsville, Pa., suffered from a gunshot wound to the head. Leroy R. Case, 48, of Fairmont was shot in the stomach, said Sgt. G.L. Campbell, detachment commander of the Fairmont barracks of the West Virginia State Police.

Officials have confirmed that the argument was between the Pagans and the Second Brigade. Details of the incident are still pretty murky.

The shooting Saturday sent bystanders running for cover when shots broke out.

Officials said that after a group of bikers arrived in the parking lot of the Last Stop on Homewood Avenue, an argument broke out, which progressed to a fist fight. Then shots were fired.

Campbell said the State Police weren't receiving much cooperation from witnesses. He added that police believe that 10-15 shots were fired, mostly at the bar. モTwo to three people were shooting into the building from different angles, he said.

Handguns were used to fire shots through the front door and back walls of the bar. At this time, no arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing, and officials have suspects in mind

MASSACHUSETTS ENACTS "NELLY'S BILL" TO EDUCATE DRIVERS Governor Mitt Romney signed House Bill 2124 into law on June 6, 2004, to require at least one hour of a motorcycle safety and awareness module be included in the course curriculum for 398 licensed auto driver training schools statewide. Known as "Nelly's Bill," in memory of Nelson Selig who was killed in 2000 when a 19-year-old driver crossed into the path of his motorcycle, the law will take affect in 90 days.

"We're very grateful our legislators who listened to those who ride," said Paul W. Cote, Director of Government Relations for the Massachusetts Motorcycle Association. "This legislation, when implemented, will begin another element of our process at reducing accidents, injuries and fatalities here in Massachusetts," said Cote.

Funding for the expectant $10,000 cost of the materials will come from the state's Motorcycle Safety Program, accumulated by $2 of each of the 144,000-plus motorcyclist's annual registration fees.

VIRGINIA GOV VETOES SAFETY BILL Despite passing unanimously through the House and Senate, Governor Mark R. Warner has vetoed HB 408, a bill that would have required the marking of steel plates on Virginia roadways to make them more visible to drivers and riders.

140 Legislators saw the value and benefit of this key piece of safety legislation, yet Governor Warner rejected a bill that is designed to insure motorcyclists, and the general public, are safer on the roads by requiring that steel plates installed on roadways be clearly marked, reports Jim Cannon of the Virginia Coalition of Motorcyclists (VCOM).

WEST COAST CHOPPERS GEAR BANNED FROM CALIFORNIA SCHOOLS  The Iron Cross, a recognizable
symbol of Nazi Germany, has become a popular design with skateboard companies such as No
Fear and biker clothing manufacturers like Jesse James' West Coast Choppers.  But school
officials in Southern California have banned the symbol and recently mailed over 13,000
letters to parents of children in the Simi Valley Unified School District to inform them
of their decision to bar clothing and jewelry depicting the symbol they say is being
used by believers of "white power" movements to identify themselves.

School officials said that the step was recommended by the Police Department, which
considers the Iron Cross a gang symbol, and was taken due to rumors of rising tensions
on campus which they fear could lead to violence.
FLFLHTC:  Knee jerk reaction?  I sure hope they can wear Orange County Choppers gear.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Former U.S. Rep. Bill Janklow had just visited his mother and therefore was not on duty when he caused the crash that killed a man, a lawyer for the victim's family argued in documents filed in federal court this week.

Attorney Ronald Meshbesher of Minneapolis said the visit would mean that Janklow was not on official business when he went through a stop sign near Trent, S.D., and collided with motorcyclist Randy Scott of Hardwick, Minn.

But lawyers for Janklow and the federal government argue that he did not stop at his mother's home in Flandreau, S.D., and was within the scope of his job when he left an event in Aberdeen and headed for his home in Brandon.

Monday's filings were in response to an appeal filed by Meshbesher, who wants a civil lawsuit filed by Scott's family returned to state court in Minnesota so the family can sue for larger punitive damages. This would not be allowed if Janklow were on official government duty when Scott was hit.

A jury convicted Janklow, 64, of speeding, running a stop sign, reckless driving and second-degree manslaughter. He served a 100-day jail sentence and was released May 17.

As it stands, the federal government, not Janklow, would pay any money awarded from the civil lawsuit.

Meshbesher said Janklow and former chief of staff Chris Braendlin, who was with Janklow at the time, contradicted themselves in May 28 sworn depositions from what they told jurors at Janklow's trial in December.

According to the deposition transcript, Janklow testified that he recalled turning on a certain road but cannot remember what happened after that or if he stopped at his mother's house.

According to the transcript from Meshbesher's latest court filing, Janklow later said no one had ever asked him if he stopped at her house.
FLFLHTC: When will this S-O-B get a clue and own up to murdering a biker!

Denver, Colorado, has 300 days of bright sunshine a year - more annual hours of sun than San Diego, California or Miami Beach, Florida.

British serial killer Robert Maudsley is reported to be near death following 26 years in solitary confinement. The Daily Mirror reported Monday Maudsley has lost a good deal of weight because of drugs given to him to control his violent mood swings have dulled his appetite. "It is hard to feel sorry for such a man. But it's still shocking to see him like that," said a prison insider at Wakefield prison.
A doctor visits Maudsely twice a day at his two-room glass cage -- similar to the one in the film "Silence Of The Lambs" that starred Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter.
Maudsley was sentenced to life in prison in 1974 after he killed a laborer. Three years later, while in prison he killed a pedophile. A guard said he fractured the man's skull like an egg and then ate part of his brain with a spoon. In 1978, he killed two more convicts. Because of his prison killings Maudsely was placed into solitary confinement, a punishment he described as "being buried alive in a concrete coffin."
FLFLHTC: Perhaps we can arrange for him to share a cell with Joseph Smith (Carlie Brucia's not yet convicted murderer).

The word from Springfield, Illinois is that Chavo Guerrero, Sr. once again no-showed the house show without calling management. No one within WWE, not even his son, has spoken to him in days and superstars are starting to worry about his situation. Although it was expected WWE would punish Guerrero for his absences, the greater concern right now is what happened to Chavo.

Word of the Day

objurgation \ahb-jer-GAY-shun\ noun

: a harsh rebuke
Example sentence:
"The young man . . . began to fan himself vigorously with his hat, and broke out into a lively objurgation upon the hot weather." (Henry James, Roderick Hudson)
Did you know?
"Objurgation" traces to the Latin "objurgare" ("to scold or blame"), which was formed from "ob-" ("against") and "jurgare" ("to quarrel" or, literally, "to take to law" — in other words, "to bring a lawsuit"). "Jur-" in Latin means "law," and there are several English words related to "objurgation" that have legal implications, including "perjury," "abjure," "jurisprudence," and even "injury." But despite its etymological connection to the law, the word "objurgation" carries no legal weight. It refers to nothing more than an unusually harsh or severe scolding..
