Gary C. Sleezer, 54, of Myakka City, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident
that happened about 50 feet north of County Road 675, in front of the C&A Country Store.
Donna Byrne and Karen Hand were talking at Hand's hot dog cart in the parking lot around 12:30 p.m. when they both heard a terrible crash. Byrne
said she saw Sleezer fly over the hood and hit the windshield of a 1996
hunter green GMC Yukon driven by Martin Hernandez, 37, of Ellenton.
"I heard the crash, then saw everything fly," Hand said.
Byrne ran over to Sleezer and tried to help, but it was too late.
"911 tried to tell me what I needed to do," she said.
"The paramedics said he was dead on impact.
"They said there was nothing I could have done, but I feel so guilty."
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Sleezer was heading south on
U.S. 301 on his 2004 Buell motorcycle in the left turn lane approaching
County
Road 675. Sleezer was traveling behind a large box-type truck, troopers
reported.
Hernandez was headed north on U.S. 301 when Sleezer "attempted to turn
left into a parking lot and failed to observe" Hernandez's vehicle, entering
into the direct path of the SUV, reports stated.
The SUV struck the right side of the motorcycle, which went underneath the
SUV.
Sleezer was wearing a helmet and eye protection at the time of the crash.
No charges will be filed in the crash, according to an FHP news release.
No alcohol or drugs were involved in the accident, the report stated.
Sleezer was a lifelong biker who worked for Rossiter's Harley-Davidson
in Sarasota. Sleezer leaves behind a wife, Mary, and a son, Aaron.
He also leaves behind a long list of biker friends from across the country.

Harley-Davidson Motor Co. has chosen one of China's largest
motorcycle makers for its partner in entering the Chinese market,
sources said today.
Zongshen Group is a conglomerate with more than 20 companies and several dozen associated businesses throughout the Far East. Its products have been exported to more than 50 countries, including the United States. Harley officials have said they are close to announcing a partnership with a Chinese manufacturer to export American-made motorcycles to China but have declined to reveal the partner's identity. Three people from an international law firm have independently identified Zongshen as Harley's new partner, sources from China said this morning. Any agreement with a Chinese manufacturer is meant to extract sales expertise and help Harley navigate distribution roads into the risky Chinese market, Klein said. There is no intention to manufacture Harley motorcycles in China, he said. In return for on-the-ground marketing guidance in China, Harley would share certain technology and knowledge with its Chinese partner. Harley is also prepared to coach its Chinese partner on its success in marketing a lifestyle image to promote its brand. China produced almost 15 million motorcycles in 2003, including 3 million units exported to other countries. The country has led the world in production and sales of motorcycles for at least nine years. Zongshen is one of the world's largest motorcycle makers with 18,000 employees and annual production of more than 1 million bikes, according to Forbes Business Directory. Harley is moving cautiously into China. Some of its biggest obstacles come in the form of motorcycle license restrictions and bans that all but eliminate demand for the company's bikes. Until now, Harley has focused its efforts on lobbying to get Chinese mayors to dismantle urban riding bans. It has enlisted the U.S. Commerce Department, which in turn has deployed foreign-trade attaches across China. MONTREAL — Two Hamilton-area residents were among the biggest drug traffickers in Montreal and held top leadership positions among the Hells Angels in their murderous turf war of the 1990s, a court heard yesterday. Beginning his closing arguments in the trial of Walter Stadnick, 51, and Donald Stockford, 42, prosecutor Randall Richmond portrayed the men as big players who did not get their hands dirty but were responsible for several killings and attempted killings. A brutal turf war raged on the streets of Montreal for six years until 2001, as the Hells Angels eliminated their underworld competition. Mr. Stadnick faces 13 counts of first-degree murder and three of attempted murder. He and Mr. Stockford are also charged with drug trafficking, conspiracy to traffic drugs, gangsterism and conspiracy to murder rival criminals who did not want to buy drugs or work for the Hells Angels. No evidence directly links the two Ontarians to any killings. However, they were founding members of the elite Nomads chapter of the Hells Angels, who lorded over more junior bikers, Mr. Richmond said. "The generals in the war were the Nomads," the Crown attorney said. Members of the Nomads' support gang, the Rockers, did the killing. The trial has heard former Rockers testify that they could refuse to kill people, but they would not get promoted. ADKINS DIET It has been known for many years that sex was good exercise, but until now nobody had made a scientific study of the caloric content of different sexual activities. Now after "original and proprietary" research we are proud to present the results. |
