Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming:
WOW - What a Ride!"

"We Lakota have a close relationship to the buffalo. He is our brother. You can't understand about nature, about the feeling we have toward it, unless you understand how close we were to the buffalo. That animal was almost like a part of ourselves, part of our souls." Lame Deer, Lakota

#06NR17 – Secretary of Transportation The Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) reported on Tuesday, September 5th, President Bush announced Mary Peters, a former Federal Highway administrator, as his choice to succeed Norman Mineta as Secretary of Transportation. Peters, herself an avid motorcyclist, resigned as the Administrator of the Federal Highway Administration six months ago.

The President made the announcement during a White House ceremony as Mrs. Peters stood at his side. "She's going to make an outstanding Secretary of Transportation," Bush said, urging the Senate to approve her nomination quickly.

Peters served as Chief of the Federal Highway Administration (FHA) from 2001 to
2005 and would be filling the Cabinet seat left vacant by Mineta, a Democrat who left the position in July after six years on the job. Since the FHA was formed in 1967, Mineta had served as Transportation Secretary for the longest period of time. President Bush made his choice known as the Senate returned from their August recess to insure the confirmation process could commence immediately.

"Mrs. Peters has been extremely supportive of motorcyclists evidenced by her advocation of the Motorcycle Advisory council included in the last highway bill," said Jeff Hennie, Vice President of Government Relations for the Motorcycle Riders Foundation. He added, "The MRF looks forward to a productive working relationship with Mary Peters in her new role as a cabinet level advisor to President Bush."

The MRF supports the nomination of Mary Peters to be the nation's next Secretary of Transportation and will lobby the appropriate Senate committees as the confirmation process moves forward.

HOW TO INSTALL A HOME SECURITY SYSTEM IN THE SOUTH
1. Go to a second-hand store and buy a pair of men's used size 14-16 work boots.
2. Place them on your front porch, along with a copy of Guns & Ammo magazine and your NRA magazines.
3. Put a few giant dog dishes next to the boots and magazine.
4. Leave a note on your door that reads:

Hey Bubba, Big Jim, Duke and Slim, I went for more ammunition. Back in an hour. Don't mess with the pit bulls - they attacked the mailman this morning and messed him up real bad. I don't think Killer took part in it but it was hard to tell from all the blood. Anyway, I locked all four of 'em in the house. Better wait outside.

New York, N.Y., August 31, 2006 - SCI FI Channel today announced it will keep its new hit program, ECW (Extreme Championship Wrestling), on the network through at least the end of 2007. ECW is produced by World Wrestling E ntertainment®, the producer of the No. 1 weekly basic cable TV series, "Monday Night RAW" on USA Network.

ECW debuted on SCI FI as a summer series in June on Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT, providing an alternative brand of wrestling suited to fit the Channel's commitment to fuel the imagination. The program met with immediate success, with its premiere attracting more than 1.8 million new viewers to SCI FI; 43% of the ECW's premiere audience had not watched the SCI FI Channel during the prior 4 weeks.
The debut also set a Channel record for a series premiere attracting 1.07 million viewers 18-34, the most ever in the demographic.

ECW has remained consistent throughout its summer run, averaging about 2.7 million viewers and ranking as one of SCI FI's highest rated weekly programs. It has consistently been one of the top-rated programs in primetime on Tuesday among male teens and one of the top-rated cable programs in households.

BETHESDA, Md., -- The National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Md., said the breast cancer rate in the United States stop- ped rising in 2001 and may have begun to fall in 2003. The institute said the data represent an end to the rise of breast cancer rates, which had been on a steady incline since the 1980s. However, the organization's report said it will take years to find out if the trend is lasting or a temporary reprieve, The Washington Post reported Thursday.
"I think we're finally beginning to see a change -- that it's leveling off -- and we may even be seeing the start of a decline," said the institute's Brenda Edwards, who led the team that compiled the report. "We have to be cautious. But I think it's real." About 137.3 breast cancer cases were re- ported for every 100,000 women in 2001. That number dropped to 133.8 in 2002 and to 124.2 in 2003. Edwards and her team speculated the change may have been influenced by a peak in the use of mammography, a plateau in the number of women delaying childbirth and a drop in the number of women using hormones after menopause.
Clean the drip pans and grates from the stove burners once a week in the dishwasher to keep them looking like new. The best way to clean a grill is to first heat up the coals. As the coals heat, they will burn off a lot of the dried-on food. Use a grill brush to clear off any remaining particles.

MUNICH, Germany, -- A German study suggests diabetes has a detrimental effect on a person's ability to recover from a heart transplant. "Using positron emission tomography and the transplanted heart as a very specific model to study the regenerative capacity of the heart's sympathetic ner vous system, we determined reinnervation, the heart's ability to develop new nerves to replace damaged ones,  is slower in diabetic patients," said Frank Bengel, who was an associate professor at the Technical University of Munich, where the study was performed. "A better understand ing of the importance of nervous system abnormalities and an imaging technique to precisely characterize nerve damage may be of value to guide future therapeutic efforts aimed at reducing cardiac risk with diabetes mellitus patients,"
said Bengel, now an associate professor of radiology and director of cardiovascular nuclear medicine at Johns Hopkins University. "Even if a transplant recipient is suffering from diabetes, there is still a chance for re-innervation, just at a slower speed," he added. "Unfortunately, there are no techniques developed yet that speed the nerve regenera tion process." The research appears in the September issue of the Journal of Nuclear Medicine.
