Next Abate of Florida State Meeting Motorcycle Events for Southwest Fl Life is not a journey to the grave
with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body,
but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and

Hundreds of Hells Angels are poised to descend on suburban Langley to celebrate the motorcycle club's 25th anniversary. The party hosted by the Angels' White Rock chapter is scheduled for the weekend of July 25-26. It will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Vancouver, Nanaimo and White Rock chapters. The RCMP sent out a media advisory yesterday -- two weeks before the big bash -- warning that they'll be ready for trouble, with officers drawn from around the Lower Mainland. Langley Township Mayor Kurt Alberts welcomed the Angels family to his family-oriented community. "We're very much a family community and we expect their conduct would be law-abiding and respectful to our citizens," Alberts said yesterday. "We're not concerned [about potential trouble] because our expectation is their conduct will be law-abiding." The White Rock chapter's clubhouse is in Langley Township, but Langley City chief administration officer Francis Cheung said he expects revelers to visit his municipality, too. "Am I concerned? I guess any time you have that many Hells Angels coming to town, there is some public concern," said Cheung, speaking on behalf of vacationing Langley City Mayor Peter Fassbender. "As far as we know, the RCMP have a co-ordinated, unified effort to monitor any issues that arise." Angels spokesman Rick Ciarniello said he was surprised by the RCMP's advisory. "I am surprised the police would alert the media to our celebration," Ciarniello said via e-mail. "I wonder about their motives to do so. It is a private party. "It will not interfere with nor should it be of any interest to the public. Like any other group in society, we would like to celebrate our 25th anniversary privately. In keeping with that theme, we have nothing [more] to say." © The Vancouver Province 2008. |

| TALLAHASSEE, Fla., -- A U.S. scientist says he's using high- powered computers to create cancer treatments involving a new class of tumor-killing drugs. Florida State University Assistant Professor Kevin Chen says he wants to determine how substances known as recombinant immunotoxins can best be modified to attack and kill malignant tumors while doing minimal harm to a patient's healthy cells. "Cancer is a disease of tremendous complexity, so the analysis and interpretation of data demands sophisticated, specialized computational methods," Chen said. He said recombinant immunotoxins are new drugs consisting of tiny fragments of antibody proteins that are fused at the genetic level to toxins produced by certain types of bacteria, fungi or plants. "Once injected into the body, the antibody portion of the immunooxin targets specific proteins called antigens that are massively expressed on the surface of cancer cells," Chen said. "These cells are subsequently killed by the accompanying toxins. Normal, healthy cells, meanwhile, are not recognized and thus are spared." The study that included FSU researchers Junho Kim and Xinmei Li and molecular biologist Byungkook Lee of the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Md., appeared in the March issue of the journal Annals of Biomedical Engineering. | ||

Coat Hanger
A woman was at work when she received a phone call that her small daughter was very sick with a fever. She left her work and stopped by the pharmacy to get some medication. She got back to her car and found that she had locked her keys in the car. She didn't know What to do, so she called home and told the baby sitter what had happened. The baby sitter told her that the fever was getting worse. She said, "You might find a coat Hanger and use that to open the door." The woman looked around and found an old rusty coat hanger that had been left on the ground, possibly by someone else who at some time had locked their keys in their car. She looked at the hanger and said, "I don't know how to use this." She bowed her head and asked God to send her help. Within five minutes a beat up old Motorcycle pulled up, with a dirty, greasy, bearded man who was wearing an old biker skull rag on his head. The woman thought, "This is what you sent to help me?" But, she was desperate, so she was also very thankful. The man got off of his cycle and asked if he could help. She said, "Yes, my daughter Is very sick. I stopped to get her some medication and I locked my keys in my car. I must get home to her. Please, can you use this hanger to unlock my car? He said, "Sure." He walked over to the car, and in less than a minute the car was opened. She hugged the man and through her tears she said, "Thank You So Much! You are a very nice man." The man replied, "Lady, I am not a nice man. I just got out of prison today. I was in prison For car theft and have only been out for about an hour." The woman hugged the man again and with sobbing tears cried out loud, "Oh, Thank you God! You even sent me a Professional!" Is - GOD GOOD - or what!? |

Founded in 1565 by Spanish explorers, St. Augustine is the nation's oldest city and has a wealth of historic buildings and attractions. In addition to the historic sites on the mainland, the city has 43 mi of beaches on two barrier islands to the east, both reachable by causeways. Several times a year St. Augustine holds historic reenactments, such as December's Grand Christmas Illumination, which commemorates the town's British occupation. Historic District/Site, Fernandina Beach The Amelia Island Historic District, in Fernandina Beach, has more than 50 blocks of buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places; 450 ornate structures built prior to 1927 offer some of the nation's finest examples of Queen Anne, Victorian, and Italianate homes. Many date to the haven's mid-19th-century glory days. Pick up a self-guided-tour map at the chamber of commerce, in the old train depot -- once a stopping point on the first cross-state railroad. American Police Hall of Fame and Museum Museum/Gallery, Titusville If you've ever wondered why cops deserve your respect, pay a visit to the American Police Hall of Fame and Museum. Opened in late 2003, it is adjacent to the Astronaut Hall of Fame and, in its own way, is just as impressive. In addition to memorabilia like the Robocop costume and Bladerunner car from the films, there are informative displays on what cops face every day: drugs, homicides, and criminals who can create knives from dental putty and guns from a bicycle spoke (really). At times, it can be a gruesome chamber of horrors with autopsy photos of criminals and chilling mock-ups of prison cells, gas chambers and an electric chair. An eerie example of law enforcement memorabilia is a piece of a WTC tower fused with the plane that hit it. Other historical exhibits include invitations to hangings, police patches, how you collect evidence at a crime scene and, most importantly, a rotunda where more than 7,000 names are etched in marble to honor police officers who have died in the line of duty. Cops, gun nuts, and curious tourists are taken by the 24-lane shooting range that provides rental guns (weekdays noon-7 PM, weekends noon-5 PM). www.aphf.org. COST: $12 adults, $8 children 4-12. OPEN: Daily 10-6. Address: 6350 Horizon Dr., Titusville, FL, USA . |
